Aare boats

We have been renting boats for tours on the Aare for 20 years. From Thun Schwäbis the route runs over a distance of 20 km down to Bern.

Our boats

Our Aare boats are professional, stable and above all self-draining inflatable boats. When water enters – for example when getting on board – it drains off again by itself. This makes the boats of the Aarebootsvermietung especially safe.

  • Canoe (tube canoe, 2 persons)
  • Inflatable boat (rafting boat, 2–4 persons)
  • Inflatable boat (rafting boat, 5–7 persons)
  • Inflatable boat (rafting boat, 6–9 persons)
  • Inflatable boat (6–10 persons), with guide
  • Inflatable boat (up to 14 persons), with guide
Route

You pick up your boat in Thun Schwäbis. The best way is to take the train and walk from the station to Schwäbisstrasse 58, 3613 Steffisburg. This is directly at the Regibrücke.

All boats must be returned in Bern. You can leave the Aare at the sunbathing area at Camping Eichholz. Carry your boat to the parking lot and hand in all your rental equipment. From the campsite it is a 20 minute walk along the river Aare to Bern main station. It takes about 10 minutes to the tram station Wabern.

Duration of the trip

The total duration of the 20 km between Thun Schwäbis and the Eichholz campsite is 2.5 hours. Because there are many possibilities to dock, barbecue or sunbathe on the way, you can also be on the water all day long. You can pick up your boat between 10 a.m, and 2.30 p.m. You decide this when you book. The return of the boats in Bern is always before 6 p.m.

Participants

Floating the Aare is suitable for individuals and groups. Aarebootsvermietung has boats for up to 14 persons. Participants should be able to swim, this applies to adults and children. If more than one child is on board, we recommend having one adult on board per child.

Rental equipment

Whoever rents a boat from us rents the complete equipment. This means: a professional, stable and self-draining inflatable boat including life jackets for all participants. Sufficient paddles, a clothes barrel and a map of the Aare. Of course we also take care of the return transport of the boat to Thun.

Bring along

You don’t need much for a boat trip on the Aare. Nevertheless, you should pack the following things: clothes and spare clothes suitable for the weather, shoes that can get wet and, depending on the weather, rain and sun protection. For those who wear glasses, we recommend a glasses strap. In addition, a pocket knife, a whistle and a small first-aid kit should be in your luggage. Be sure to pack your mobile phone waterproof!

Leave at home

There should be no sharp or pointed objects in your luggage. Please also leave glass bottles at home.

Booking

You can reserve your boat online. Please remember that the boat rental must be paid cash on site and we do not accept card payments. All prices include the boat rental and the complete rental equipment. On weekends and holidays there is a surcharge of CHF 10 for the inflatable boats.
