Common questions about Aare boat rental, Aareböötle, safety and the route from Thun to Bern.
Where does the trip start, and do we go through the Uttigen Wave?
Yes! We start right at Thun Schwäbis, before the Uttigen Wave — so you ride through the Aare's most exciting stretch from the very first minutes, unlike rentals that start further downstream and skip it.
What's the biggest boat you offer?
Our guided rafts take up to 14 people, and our biggest self-guided raft fits up to 10 — the biggest boats on the Aare, perfect for large groups and events.
What should I bring?
Bring clothes you don't mind getting wet from the knees down, swimwear if you want to swim, a towel and change of clothes for after, sunscreen, sunglasses, and water & snacks for the journey. We provide all safety equipment!
How long does the trip take?
The journey from Thun to Bern typically takes 2-4 hours, depending on river flow speed and how fast you paddle. River conditions can vary, so plan accordingly!
Do I need to know how to swim?
Yes, all participants must be able to swim well. This is essential for your safety on the river. Young children who cannot swim should not participate.
How do I cancel my booking?
Yes, you can cancel your booking yourself using the cancellation link in your confirmation email. Remember: cancellations more than 24 hours before = CHF 30.– fee per boat, within 24 hours = full charge.
How do I pay?
Payment is made in cash on the day of your booking when you pick up your equipment. Please bring the exact amount if possible.
Can I cancel if the weather is bad?
If you cancel more than 24 hours before your booking, we charge CHF 30.– per boat or CHF 15.– per canoe. Cancellations within 24 hours will be charged the full amount. However, safety is our priority – if we determine conditions are unsafe, we'll help you reschedule.
Do you offer luggage transport from Thun to Bern?
Yes, but only by prior arrangement. Please contact us in advance. Luggage can only arrive in Bern at 4:00 PM at the earliest. Please note we cannot accept liability for transported luggage.
What's the minimum age? Can I bring children?
We recommend everyone should be able to swim well. Small children who cannot swim should not be on the river yet. When booking, note that smaller children count as ⅔ of a person for capacity.
Can I buy a gift voucher?
Absolutely! Vouchers make a great gift. Contact us by phone at +41 76 315 37 37 or email info@aarebootsvermietung.ch to arrange your voucher.
The website shows no boats available. Can I still book?
Unfortunately not. If no boats are available on the website for your chosen date, they're all booked. We don't maintain a waiting list, so we recommend booking early!
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, dogs are allowed! Please consider if your dog will enjoy it and ensure they can swim well. We strongly recommend bringing a life jacket for your dog (we don't rent dog life jackets). Never tie your dog to the boat!
Can I change my booking?
You cannot change your booking yourself online. Please email us at info@aarebootsvermietung.ch with your booking number and change request, and we'll help you out.
How do I book for a large group?
Simply book the number of boats you need for your group size. Remember to book for the correct number of people – smaller children count as ⅔ of a person. For special group arrangements, feel free to contact us.
